Hello Everyone again,
Sorry to bother you again, but I had no sooner sent out my last missive when Laura e-mailed me about the next meeting. I can do no better than paraphrase her own words: "Wheel speed dating is about letting people try different wheels they've admired from afar, but never had a go with for fear of messing up someone's project. We need people willing to let others try their wheel and people willing to have a go. It would be best if people have an empty bobbin on the wheel with a leader in place. We'll set these wheels up in one area and mark them with red ribbon (people can supply their own, but I'll bring some too). It might be useful to hang a tag on the wheel with the owners name on too, and any requests ( I'll be asking anyone who wants to try my sonata to take their shoes off, for example) Willing participants need to bring their own, clean fibre (as not everyone will want lanolin left in their orifice!). It would be preferable if it is a fibre they are already familiar with and comfortable using as this will reduce the learning curve on different wheels. I can bring some extra fibre along just in case. We'll let people try a wheel for about 20 minutes and then I'll ring my bell and everyone can move round. At the end, participants will have tried different wheels and wheel owners will have a varied yarn as dubious payment for their generosity and trust. Hopefully Colin is coming along to help everyone show their wheels some love - he could be sorely needed after this!" Don't forget we will be at the new venue, St Giles Community Centre, Desborough NN14 2NP. if anyone is confused about any of this, please do email me, as I have a smart phone and should be able to respond. [Word to the wise - when my daughter got married at this church, despite the fact she included the postcode and a map in the invitation, two lots of guests went to St Giles in Northampton! Too much initiative can be a bad thing. The AA route planner says it is 3.7 miles from Stoke Albany village hall.] Hopefully see you on the 6th.

It was good to see so many of you at the January meeting of the Guild.
The next meeting will be It will be on February 6th 2016, at the usual hours, 10:30 to 4:30. The important point of the next meeting is that it will be at the new venue. If anyone has missed this, the new venue is the St Giles Community Centre, Lower Street, Desborough, Northamptonshire, NN14 2NP. There is a reasonable amount of parking behind the hall. It should be fairly easy to find, as if google maps and satnavs fail you, it is just by the church, which is very visible from the main roads in Desborough. (Desborough is a couple of miles south of Stoke Albany.) One link is St Giles, Desborough which tells you about the church, but also has a tab with a map. The actual subject matter of the meeting is "Speed Dating" - a Valentine's Day special. The idea is people get to have a go on other people's machines. If you have any interesting machines, or other spinning related equipment that you are happy to have ham-fisted strangers have a go on, please bring it to the meeting. It is especially useful for people to test out equipment they are thinking of getting. If however, you would be happier to share a toothbrush than have someone share your precious baby, please feel under no obligation. We are also hoping to have revision of the actual long-draw spinning technique, and hopefully Katharine the Great will be available to use. Look forward to seeing you, Rachel |
